The Adventures of Tintin online

The Adventures of Tintin
If you’re like me, you’ve probably been wondering what the big deal is with Tintin and why Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson decided to produce an entire trilogy of films based on this comic strip. It has been said that Tintin has a much bigger following in Europe (the series was created by Belgian artist Georges Rémi), but it still seems like a bit of a risk to commit to three films based on something that is not particularly well-known in North America. Either way, up until now we hadn’t really heard or seen anything from the first installment The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, despite the fact that it had finished filming in early 2009. Now this week the first photos from the film have appeared online courtesy of Empire Magazine.

The reason we haven’t seen anything from the film up until now is because it is a 3-D motion capture film in the vein of Robert Zemeckis’ Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. While that may not inspire confidence in a lot of people, I have to admit, these photos look pretty great and really capture the style of the comic but in a photorealistic way. The CG work is being done by Weta Digital, and they seem to be doing a bang up job of it. The cast includes Jamie Bell as Tintin, Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock, Daniel Craig as Red Rackham, and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as the Thompson Twins. Does this make you more interested in ? Check out the photos after the jump.
